Meeting the new Department for Education requirements for School Washrooms

Mobile phone camera mis-use in School toilet areas is becoming a wide-spread issue, which the DfE (Department for Education) have strongly addressed – updating their school washroom design brief to address this. In some instances projects have even failed project handovers if the WC cubicle system installed doesn’t fully prevent the mis-use of mobile phones.

The key issue is that school washroom cubicles must have anti-finger trap hinges but these also provide a thin gap which a smart phone can be inserted through revealing a clear picture of the user inside the cubicle, as shown in the diagram below:

Hive is a unique cubicle system developed to meet this issue and also has a retro-fit option available for installations already completed.

We worked with our clients, contractors and architects to create this modular Toilet Cubicle system which  is available for New Build Schools with a fully integrated anti-phone trim and also as a retro fit for large School Refurbishments.
